GeoProof

Free Tools

Small, honest browser tools for the things people actually need to do with photo metadata. Each one runs entirely on your own device — the file is read in the page and never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

  • Photo Location Checker — drop in a photo and read the GPS coordinates, capture time, camera and editing software recorded in its metadata, with a plain-language explanation of what each field does and does not tell you.

Why these run in your browser

A photo's metadata often includes exactly where it was taken. Uploading a file to a stranger's server to find that out is a bad trade — you learn your own coordinates and they learn them too, along with your IP address and a copy of the picture. Everything here is written to avoid that entirely: the parsing code is downloaded to your machine once, and the file stays where it is.

That is the same principle the app is built on. GeoProof has no account, no cloud storage and no photo sync — the details are in the privacy policy.

What we will not build

Search for photo metadata tools and most of what comes back are fake geotag generators — write any coordinates you like into any photo. We are not going to add one. The whole point of GeoProof is that a stamp on a photo means something, and a tool for manufacturing false ones would undercut that. What we build instead is the reading side: showing people what a file actually claims, and being straight about how much weight that claim can carry.
